Have you ever wondered about the projects, people and partnerships helping to care for the Gladstone region’s environment for future generations? Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership’s (GHHP) latest Above and Below publication offers a closer look at the work happening across the region to support a healthy environment and community.

Launched on Sunday 07 June 2026 at Gladstone Regional Council’s Ecofest, the 6th annual GHHP Above and Below: Stewardship Actions in the Gladstone Region showcases a collection of stories highlighting projects by GHHP Partners.

From restoring coastal habitats and monitoring local waterways to community education programs, cultural stewardship and sustainability projects, the publication highlights the many ways people and organisations are working together to care for the Gladstone region.

GHHP’s Above and Below includes stories from industry, community groups, researchers, First Nations organisations and government, reflecting the strong collaboration helping to protect and improve the environmental, social, cultural and economic values of the region.

Since its first edition in 2021, GHHP’s Above and Below has become a flagship publication, providing a positive snapshot of the projects, partnerships and people helping to shape a sustainable future for Gladstone.

GHHP Independent Chair Professor Iain Gordon said the publication shines a spotlight on the passion and stewardship happening throughout the region.

“Above and Below demonstrates the incredible work taking place across our region every day,” Professor Gordon said. “It’s fantastic to see organisations and community members coming together to support the long-term health and resilience of our harbour and surrounding environments including the Great Barrier Reef.”

This year’s publication was officially launched at Ecofest 2026, Central Queensland’s largest environmental awareness event, held at the Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens.

GHHP Project Officer Hannah King said Above and Below helps connect the community with the environmental work happening across the region.

“There are so many valuable projects happening throughout the Gladstone region that many people may not hear about,” Ms King said. “Above and Below gives us the opportunity to share those stories, celebrate the people involved and encourage the community to learn more about the work being done to care for our region.”

GHHP was established in 2013 and brings together partners from government, industry, research, First Nations, and the community. The Partnership delivers independent, science-based reporting on harbour health through the annual Gladstone Harbour Report Card. Both the Queensland and Australian governments provide funding to five regional waterway report card partnerships within the catchment of the Great Barrier Reef, including GHHP.
