Harbour Insights: Celebrating New Milestones in 2026

We’re thrilled to launch the latest edition of Harbour Insights, marking another step forward in our journey to understand and protect Gladstone Harbour. This edition features some exciting highlights:

  • Gladstone Harbour Report Card 2026 – Our 11th annual Report Card is out, and we’re excited to reintroduce the Fish Health Assessment Index for the first time since 2021. We’re also celebrating the development of a new Traditional Owner Values Framework, being undertaken by the First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, and Taribelang Bunda Development Corporation (FNBGGGTBDC).

  • New Partnerships – We welcome CoralWatch, a global citizen science program based at the University of Queensland, supporting consistent monitoring of coral health across the globe.

  • Honouring Achievements – Congratulations to Professor John Rolfe, recipient of the Order of the Medal of Australia for his long-term contribution to environmental economics and regional development. John has served as Chair of GHHP’s Independent Science Panel since 2016.

  • Team Updates – We say farewell to Research Officer Tania Skewis, welcome back Kirsten McMahon from maternity leave, and warmly introduce Jane Hammond, our new Communications and Engagement Officer.

  • Regional Connections – GHHP is proud to be one of five Regional Report Card Partnerships along the Great Barrier Reef coastline. Click their logos in Harbour Insights to explore more about these important collaborations.
