Gladstone Library Virtual Reef Visits

Gladstone Regional Library Virtual Reef Visits

In an exciting collaboration, the Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership (GHHP) team joined forces with the Gladstone Regional Library during the Virtual Reef events. The goal was simple: to make learning about our local environment fun for both children and adults.

One of the highlights was GHHP’s new ‘Drains and Ladders’ game. All attendees enjoyed racing each other across the game board, which cleverly emphasized the significance of keeping drains and waterways clean to protect the marine ecosystem. It not only entertained but also educated, making learning about environmental responsibility enjoyable.

But the fun didn’t stop there. The Gladstone Regional Library hosted crafty activities, encouraging everyone to get creative with marine-themed art based on the Virtual Reef presentations and theme of the day.

GHHP’s Research Officer, Kirsten McMahon said the events proved to be a huge success. “It was a fantastic way to celebrate the beauty of our local ocean and to see the kids enjoy the activities while also taking away some valuable information about why we need to care for our environment really solidifies the program’s value” says Kirsten.

GHHP also had its newest educational resources out on display; the turtle Colour by Number, the marine-themed Finish the Pattern exercise, Dugong Dot-to-Dot, Let’s Learn About Turtles, and Trace the Word captivated several of the next generation of

biologists!

Be sure to keep an eye out for events such as this one in the future!
